Sweet Silver Bells
Are you in the Christmas spirit yet?! You might think I’m joking - it’s only October for goodness’ sake!!
Well, my vivacious toddler and her razor-sharp memory (I used to have one of those…I think) has been requesting “Sion Corn” videos throughout the year. February’s snow, April’s storms, June’s heatwave - all the perfect time to read her favourite library book that she insisted we renew all year since November 2020, “Little Santa’s Christmas”.
So, you can hardly blame me for being a bit more prepared than usual for the festive season. To help get you in the mood for those frosty mornings and twinkling lights, I’m publishing my arrangement of Carol of the Bells. I loved working on this when I performed for a special online concert last Christmas - I just can’t help but feel Christmassy whenever I hear it! It’s a hugely popular tune, maybe most famous for its use in Home Alone, though it’s been featured in countless other films and tv programmes. Inspired by a piano version I heard, this arrangement starts with a repeated right hand pattern, building in drama towards a gentle cadenza before the main theme returns.
