Composing

Though she had been composing for a number of years, it wasn't until Gwenllian was preparing to release her debut CD that she was finally convinced to publish some of her works.

Composing was a component of her music studies at school and one of her electives at RWCMD, and Gwenllian enjoyed getting lost in her works, composing for a variety of ensembles and instruments. She was particularly inspired by a workshop with John Metcalf and a wind quintet whilst still at school, and the resulting work was performed and recorded on an NYO course following some private lessons with Paul Patterson.

Gwenllian's main inspiration for returning to composing was her students; thus, the small selection of works that she has published are solely for harp, though written to be played on either the lever or pedal harp. Her most popular piece to date is Strawberry Moon, which is currently set on the Trinity College of London harp exam syllabus and has been performed several times on the radio via BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Cymru. Her newest piece, Ffantasi ar Calon Lan, had its YouTube Premiere in 2020 and will feature on her upcoming CD with Ty Cerdd.
