I’m a finalist!

Light pink heart shape with the words: Kent Wedding Awards, Finalist 2022/2023

I was pretty excited to find out a couple of weeks ago that I’ve been named a finalist in the Kent Wedding Awards!

When I was beginning my career, I have to admit that I felt I was selling my soul to the devil when I thought about marketing myself as a wedding harpist. I worked so hard to practise to attend music college, playing extremely demanding repertoire in concert halls and preparing for international competitions and festivals. I felt I wasn’t doing my years of training justice when I reverted to that wedding classic, Pachelbel’s Canon in D, over the hundreds of other pieces I’d learned over the years.

As time has gone on, I’ve developed a huge amount of pride in the service I provide to couples as a harpist. My repertoire is constantly being updated, even though Pachelbel still gets a regular showing, and I’m often challenged to create brand new arrangements of songs I might never have heard before, allowing me to be creative and learn about new singers/movies/composers etc. I’ve adopted a check-list to conquer all follies - unlike in my personal life where I still always forget something on family trips - and I continue to connect with more venues and professionals across the wedding industry who are committed to creating the best day these couples will remember forever. Best of all, I get to witness one of the most special, intimate moments as couples tie the knot, often with the best seat of all as I’m one of the few who usually gets to see their faces!

During these moments, I’m reminded of my own wedding, that wonderful day five years ago, a happy, blurry, glow; it makes me thankful for the strong, caring, loving man I chose to share in this adventure. I’m grateful for all his support, from the harp packing to lunch making, brainstorming new song choices and taking pride in new videos, plus fitting all the parenting and nurturing around our work. So in case I don’t win (wink wink), here is a soppy post to thank my wonderful husband, because without him, I wouldn’t have had a chance of even becoming a finalist in the Kent Wedding Awards 2022/2023!
